Phase One: Renovation
One year ago a nature reserve had become overgrown and dangerous to the public... then a group of locals came together with the aim to renovate the space so it can be used by both people and nature. Now the area is used daily by families and locals and lots of bird families have moved into the bird boxes built by local schools. It truly has become a 'community nature reserve' - maintained and run by the community, owned by the City Council.
Phase One's aim was to renovate the nature reserve by designing and building new bridges, removing dangerous branches and renovating the path. As it is a nature reserve, the aim has always been to maintain the area with as little affect to the local plant and animal species as possible.
The Group now holds work parties every two months, which everyone in the community is invited to attend. We are sometimes joined by local students, who volunteer to help with the renovation and to help maintain the nature reserve.
Please see our Community page for more information regarding the Group and project aims.
